The Yamanami Highway, which takes you from Yufuin in Beppu and over the Kuju Mountains, is a challenging, hilly ride, but you are rewarded with majestic views of the pastoral landscape. This route traverses the “Aso panorama line,” which is filled with wide-open spaces, and takes you through Nishihara Village and Mashiki Town.
