Jojima Sake Festival and Brewery Hopping 2019 / Hana no tsuyu《2/5》

The biggest annual sake event in all of Kyushu, the Jojima Sake Festival & Brewery Hopping 2019 will be held in the city of Kurume in Fukuoka Prefecture on the weekend of February 16-17.

In order to give you a better idea of what this event is all about and what it has to offer, below is a look at last year’s (2018) event.

Located a comfortable walking distance (perfect for sobering up a bit) from the main event grounds is this sake brewery originally established in the year 1745. This brewery continues to craft its sake following age-old methods passed down from generation to generation and seeks to create the perfect, best-tasting sake full of flavor, aroma and body.

Upon entering the brewery, we first headed to the bar for a cup of sake. Inside the brewery is a collection of classic records from the 60’s and 70’s which you can listen to while enjoying your sake and lose yourself in this unique, indulgent experience.

If you make your way towards the back, you can enjoy the special namagenshu, or raw unfiltered sake (sake which has not undergone the filtering or pasteurization process), of the day. However, as the special-edition blue bottle junmai daiginjo (top-quality) sake is always a hit year after year, you should try to go early if you would like to have a taste as it can sometimes even sell out before noon. According to Mr. Matsumoto, if you let junmai daiginjo sake sit it can lose its aroma so you should be sure to drink it quickly.
