Jojima Sake Festival and Brewery Hopping 2019 / Ikekame《5/5》

The biggest annual sake event in all of Kyushu, the Jojima Sake Festival & Brewery Hopping 2019 will be held in the city of Kurume in Fukuoka Prefecture on the weekend of February 16-17.

In order to give you a better idea of what this event is all about and what it has to offer, below is a look at last year’s (2018) event.

Founded in the year 1875, Ikekame shuzo strives to preserve the value of tradition while at the same time trying its hand at creating new types of sake. In addition to sake, this brewery also makes authentic shochu as well as liqueurs never before made in Japan, creating innovative, unique new beverages.

For a unique experience you can’t have just any old day, you can enjoy a drink while sitting on the bottling rack – sake sure tastes different from this point of view! And with plenty of free tasting available, Ikekame shuzo offers more than just sake, with a wide variety of one-of-a-kind tea- and fruit-flavored liqueurs for you to discover. And with amazake (sweet, non- or low-alcoholic beverage) and soft-serve ice cream also available, there is something for everyone, even those who are not very big fans of drinking alcohol.

Fans of namagenshu (unfiltered, unpasteurized sake) should be sure to pick up a bottle of event exclusive edition “Hatsukura da yonamagenshu. With our bellies full and hearts content, this concludes our visit to the Jojima Sake Festival & Brewery Hopping Event.

So what do you think? During our visit, we checked out the main event grounds as well as four other breweries. Most of the many other guests were a bit tipsy, giving the festival a bright, cheerful mood. Visit as many or few breweries as you like - you can enjoy hopping from one brewery to the next, or you can take your time relaxing at your favorite brewery. There are as many ways to enjoy sake brewery opening festivals as there are visitors!

We hope this guide helps you make the most of the 2019 Jojima Sake Festival and Brewery Hopping Event!
