The biggest annual sake event in all of Kyushu, the Jojima Sake Festival & Brewery Hopping 2019 will be held in the city of Kurume in Fukuoka Prefecture on the weekend of February 16-17.

In order to give you a better idea of what this event is all about and what it has to offer, below is a look at last year’s (2018) event.

Next we took a shuttle bus to get to the Mori no kura brewery. This brewery is actually the closest to the train station, so if you are coming by train you might want to stop by this brewery first thing in the morning upon your arrival.

Established in 1898, Mori no kura takes special care in hand-crafting its homemade sake using high-quality local ingredients such as specially sourced local grown sake rice as well as pure, mild-tasting water drawn straight from the ground below the brewery itself. on the central courtyard.

Toward the back of the brewery is a special limited-time raw (unpasteurized), unfiltered sake stand where craftsmen carefully bottle the beverage one by one. Mr. Matsumoto recommends purchasing your top two favorite kinds of sake: “This way, you can enjoy one bottle right away, and leave the other for later, enjoying the contrast between the two flavors.” Be sure to give it a try!

Across from the brewery is a lovely dining area where you can enjoy snacking on some exquisite cuisine offered in collaboration with a local sushi restaurant, and wash it down with some warm sake while looking out
